Goodbyes from The Quarter House January 2007
Lots of changes this month at Station 25.
First, C-Shift would like to extend a heartfelt goodbye and best wishes on his
retirement to Battalion Chief Robert Witherow. After 29 years with the Fairfax
County Fire & Rescue Department, the Chief is moving on to some well deserved
fun and relaxation in South Carolina. Congratulations Chief!
Second, congratulations to A-Shift's Larry Mullin on his promotion to TROT
Technician. Unfortunately for the Quarter House it came with a transfer. Have fun
riding the rescue at Fire Station 39, Larry!
Third, C-Shift's Lieutenant Bobby Stricklen has moved to Fire Station 36 while
he waits for his promotion to Captain. The LT really did us a solid by allowing
our wayward son, Lieutenant Ray Foster to return. Thanks Bobby and we're gonna
miss you!
Last but not least, C-Shift has lost another. Firefighter Duane Lawrence has
moved on to "greener" pastures at Fire Station 8. Try not to break the ambulance
on your first day, D-Law!
Congrats & Goodbye Larry!
Bye D-Law!

units due to the known lack of hydrants in the area. E439 marked on scene with heavy smoke and fire of a two-story single
family home of wood frame construction. E439 then advised the main floor was gone and that this would be a defensive
attack. Both E431 and E436 emptied their entire hose beds of 1200 feet of 4" supply line to get from the hydrant several
streets over to the base of the driveway which required an additional 1000 feet of hose to reach the engines at the top.
Unfortunately, due to the heavy fire conditions on arrival and the initial lack of a good water supply, the house appeared to
be a total loss. More pics

Due to the privacy laws, the only EMS calls that I mention are traffic accidents and only in a very limited nature. But this one made
all the local news stations. A couple was trying to make it up the Dulles Toll Road to Fairfax Hospital in morning rush hour. The
baby didn't want to wait for the bumper to bumper traffic. E425 arrived first to what was a very impending delivery. The bouncing
baby boy was delivered approximately 2 minutes after Mom was placed on the stretcher in the back of M404. All 3 units, the
parents, and the new arrival were the subjects of local on-camera press interviews. Our Heroes of the day, Good Job!!!!!
